No Pain No Gain
The early years of my life was boring, or I’d rather say nothing happened much maybe other people’s life was just boring as mine, who knows? I was eleven years old, I went to a good school, we had a nice house, an expensive car, and my future was a flat route. It felt nice and safe but I knew there was something missing , my life was so normal I wasn’t a brave kid, most the time I always do things people guided me to do, I was always boxed. But something happened it changed my life forever, I learnt the biggest lesson of my life, a lesson which no one could teach me.
During 6th grade summer break, it was boring as usual, I spent most of the time playing "Warcraft 3" and watching cartoons. As I was watching television something catch my attention, it was a commercial about a competition that going to happen. The World Cyber Games competition was going to be held in Singapore soon, there were qualifying rounds for all countries throughout the world including Thailand. I was instantly interested, it was my chance to do something challenging something I had not done before.
After persuading and using repetition to help, my parents finally supported me to compete. It took about an hour as we drove to Sirikit convention center where the qualifying round was held, for me it felt like a day because of all the excitement. As we arrived at the hall, the amount of participants blew my brains off. Most of the participants were at the age of teenagers through mid- life. It made me want to giggle when I see people at the age of thirty and above, still playing video games like seriously guys go get a job! But that didn’t wasted my time I hurried to the registration counter, without doubt I tick the box that had “Warcraft 3” beside it.
Then I explored the hall and saw people practicing “Warcraft 3” as I noticed their skills of gaming were highly remarkable. It made me felt like a little lamp in the wolf’s territory, I lost my confident. I was lucky that my family was supportive, they cheered me up and I felt better. The moment had come. I swept my sight around and noticed that I was the youngest competitor. I walked to the computer feeling scared. But something came in my mind, it was time for me to do something real. I shook hands with my opponent and the match started people gathered around to see. I felt even more anxious but I kept my nerves, we battled fairly but his skills were too powerful to resist, after approximately 5 minutes I was defeated. It had been the last defeat of my life.
Even though I’d lost but the experiences and the moral I gained from losing was irreplaceable, it taught me to be greater and braver than ever. People can defeat me but they could never defeat my spirit it only makes me want to develop more, taking “No” for an answer was better than hearing “Yes” all the time. Nowadays I never have doubt when participating in activities though I know that the chances of winning were small. Practice makes perfect!
